| The cocktail is back. And so is the cocktail party! |
 |
A cocktail party is a great way to celebrate anything from a birthday to a new job, and it's also a fabulously simple event that's perfect for a holiday get-together.
- Part of the pleasure of serving cocktails is having the right stemware, swizzle sticks, and perhaps vintage-style shaker pitchers and strainers. [link to Tending Bar]
- Don't think you need to invest in a large collection of stemware, though! For large parties, plastic glasses are perfectly acceptable. But, if you prefer glass, you can actually rent versatile 8 - 10 oz. rocks glasses and red and white wine glasses.
- "Cocktail party" definitely implies that you'll be serving mixed drinks, so you'll need to stock your bar accordingly. To keep bartending and guest decisions simple, particularly at a large party, limit cocktail choices to the basics.
- Cocktail party invitations should specify a timeframe (e.g., 6:00 to 8:00 pm) during which your guests should drop in.
- Don't forget some finger food for the bar to allow your guests to nibble. Boursin® and crackers or french baguette is the perfect complement to any cocktail.
Invariably, you'll want to linger with a few close friends after most of your guests have departed ... and you'll probably be hungry. Rather than cook or go out to dinner, simply have a casserole or stew ready to heat up and serve.
